[ac-i] Performances of Ananda Sukarlan's music in September

 


The month of September will have Ananda Sukarlan's pieces performed for the first time in some countries in Asia & Europe.

In Singapore on September 11th the pianists from three faculties of music of the 3 universities (SMU, NUS and NTU) will present an eclectic extravaganza packed with charming classical favourites and adventurous modern works. One of the works presented will be Ananda's celebrated work for 2 pianos, "The Humiliation of Drupadi", and this will be the first Singaporean performance of this work which has now been performed in 3 continents. The concert will start at 7:30 pm at the SMU Arts & Culture Centre.

In Japan, Spanish master guitarist Miguel Trapaga is continuing his Asian tour and performing Ananda's solo guitar piece that he commissioned, "The 5 lovers of Drupadi". The performances will take place at Zoushigaya Auditorium (Tokyo) on Monday the 20th, and Palacio de la Guitarra, Bunkakan on Thursday 23rd. Afterwards Miguel Trapaga will stop by in Jakarta to perform the work for Indonesian audience who has long been waiting to hear it from the maestro of the guitar himself. His concert will be the 4th of the CumLaude Concert Series, and will be held at Teater Kecil (TIM) on the 27th at 7.30 p.m . He will also give masterclasses in Jakarta & Bandung. In Amsterdam, Holland, the unusual trio "To be Sung" consists of Elisa Roep (soprano), Eva van der Poll (cello) and Fie Schouten (clarinet) will give the world premiere of Ananda's "Bangwin's Haiku" at Kunstenhuis on the 25th. Info at www.kunstenhuis.com 

BUT in 3 days, in his home country, the young pianist Sheila Victoria Pietono (finalist of Ananda Sukarlan Award 2008 and studying with Henoch R. Kristianto and Iswargia Renardi Soedarno) is giving a recital this Sunday. Her solo concert will consist of works by Bach, Chopin, Mozart and Ananda Sukarlan's Etude no.3 "This Boy's Had a Dream", written in 2007 as a memoriam to Indonesia's former minister Prof. Dr. Fuad Hassan, who was instrumental in getting a scholarship for Ananda to study abroad back in 1986.
