THE CERAMIC ROAD OF SOUTHEAST ASIA

Pottery Villages, Ancient, Contemporary Ceramics

This is a cultural exchange exhibition and sharing knowledge participated by Southeast Asian Ceramists(Indonesia, Thailand, Philippine). You will see the collection of Southeast Asian ceramics from pottery villages in Southeast Asia regions and Contemporary Ceramics created by Southeast Asian Contemporary Ceramic Artists.

Introduction to the Exhibition

As with many other ancient civilizations around the world, ceramics played an important part in the cultural development of Southeast Asia. This exhibition covers a wide range of subjects. From the historical development of ceramics, the traditional forms and features of Southeast Asian ceramics are explored. An anthropological approach allows the visitors to gain an understanding of life in the potters' villages and how they work. A contemporary approach to art depicts the creative force behind the artists. And the conference and workshop are chances for researchers and Southeast Asian artists to exchange ideas and promote mutual understanding.

Hari Kunzru is a British novelist and journalist. He has written three novels titled The Impressionist (2002), Transmission (2004), and My Revolutions (2007), and a short story compilation, Noise (2006). Kunzru's works are able to steal the literature world and has been translated into 21 languages, and received some awards such as Somerset Maugham Award, Betty Trask Prize of the Society of Authors, and British Book Award. In 2003, Granta magazine named him as one of 20 best British novelists.

Hari Kunzru will be present in Komunitas Salihara to read quotes from his novel and answer some questions from discussion participants. The discussion will uncover the issues related to multi-identity and radicalism departing from the novel's characters specifically (in Britain) or the multi-identity and radicalism in the world he has observed.

The discussion with Hari Kunzru will be moderated by activist Debra H. Yatim. This event is a joint program of Komunitas Salihara and British Council.

Hari Kunzru adalah seorang novelis dan jurnalis dari Inggris. Ia telah menulis tiga novel berjudul The Impressionist (2002), Transmission (2004) dan My Revolutions (2007), serta sebuah kumpulan cerita pendek, Noise (2006). Hari Kunzru akan hadir di Komunitas Salihara untuk membacakan petikan-petikan dari novelnya dan menjawab beberapa pertanyaan dari peserta diskusi yang hadir. Diskusi akan mengulas persoalan yang berkaitan dengan multi-identitas dan radikalisme yang berangkat dari tokoh-tokoh novelnya secara khusus (di Inggris) atau pun problem multi-identitas dan radikalisme yang ia amati di dunia.

Diskusi bersama Hari Kunzru akan dipandu oleh aktivis Debra H. Yatim. Acara ini merupakan sebuah kerja sama antara Komunitas Salihara dan British Council.

Pameran Desain Buku Belanda Terbaik

8 Oktober – 12 November 2009

Pembukaan: Rabu, 7 Oktober 2009 pukul 19.00 Wib.

Pengantar: Henk Kraima, ketua Yayasan Desain Buku Belanda

Setiap tahun sebuah tim juri melakukan seleksi atas sejumlah buku Belanda dengan desain terbaik, yang pada 2008 dilakukan untuk ke-50 kalinya. Tim juri ini menilai 447 eksemplar kiriman buku berdasarkan konsep, desain, pilihan bahan dan pengelolaan teknisnya. Pameran ini menggelar:

· Buku Desain Terbaik, pemenang tahun 2008. Pada setiap buku akan ditampilkan hasil laporan juri dan keterangan tentang bahan serta teknik yang digunakan.

· Buku Desain Terbaik Belanda pemenang penghargaan internasional Leipzig (Jerman) tahun 2003-2008

· Sampul buku terbaik, pemenang tahun 2001-2008, dan

· karya buku dari desainer Joost Grootens, pemenang dari penghargaan mas di Leipzig tahun 2008

Pameran ini merupakan hasil kerja sama antara Erasmus Huis dan Yayasan Desain Buku Belanda Terbaik

Exhibition Best Dutch Books Designs

Introduction by Henk Kraima, chairman of the Best Dutch Book Designs Foundation

Every year, a professional jury makes a selection of the Best Books Designs of The Netherlands. In 2008 this took place for the 50th time. The jury judged 447 book submissions, based on the quality of their concept, design, material choice and technical design.

The exhibition is made to present :

· The Best Dutch Book Designs 2008. The books are presented with information on the techniques that were used and summary of the jury reports for each book.

· The Best Dutch Book Designs that obtained international awards at Leipzig (Germany) from 2003-2008

· Best Book Covers, winners of 2001-2008 and

· Book designs by Joost Grootens, winner of the golden award at Leipzig 2008

The exhibition is the result of collaboration between

Dalam rangka pameran Desain Buku Belanda Terbaik, Erasmus Huis kerja sama dengan Ikatan Penerbit Indonesia dan di dukung oleh Asosiasi Desainer Grafis Indonesia menyelengarakan Seminar dan diskusi panel dengan tema: Mengapa penampilan Buku harus Baik.

Seminar ini akan membahas pentingnya penampilan sebuah buku sehingga dapat menarik minat orang untuk membeli dan membacanya.

Seminar yang diawali dengan introduksi oleh Henk Kraima, ketua Yayasan Desain Buku Belanda Terbaik / direktur Yayasan Propaganda Kolektif Buku Belanda tentang pengalaman di negeri Belanda dengan kompetisi Desain Buku Terbaik, dan akan di ikuti dengan diskusi panel yang terdiri dari

Dharma Hutauruk (penerbit Erlangga): mengapa penampilan buku itu harus baik untuk bisa menarik peminat untuk membaca
Hermawan Tansin (designer): mengapa desain itu penting dan bagaimana cara membuat desain yang baik untuk sebuah buku agar menjadi kemasan yang menarik
Sulaiman Budiman (Toko Buku Gramedia): mengapa penampilan buku yang baik itu penting untuk dapat meningkatkan angka penjualan buku

On the occasion of the Exhibition Best Dutch Book Designs Erasmus Huis in cooperation with IKAPI (Indonesian Publishers federation) and supported by Adgi (Indonesian Graphic Designers Association) organizes a seminar to discus why a well presented book is important as to attract potential buyers and readers.

Henk Kraima chairman of The Best Dutch Book Designs Foundation/ director of the Collective Promotion of the Dutch Book Foundation introduces the subject, followed by a panel discussion with Dharma Hutauruk (Erlangga publisher), Sulaiman Budiman (Store Manager Gramedia ) and Hermawan Tanzil (graphic designer). Moderator: Ibu Nova Rosdiana(IKAPI

Publishers, graphic designers and all those who are interested in a well presented book are invited to attend.

Publishers and graphic designers are encouraged to bring an example of one of their books that they consider well made as input in the discussion.
